Peppermint Essential Oil is extracted from the Peppermint plant (Mentha Piperita). Peppermint is a hybrid between Watermint and Spearmint, first noted in 1753. Peppermint essential oil has the traditional minty scent that is familiar from the other uses of the herb. Peppermint essential oil is often used in oral hygiene products and has also traditionally been used to help settle upset stomachs and promote respiratory function.
Peppermint essential oil can be added to a diffuser for a refreshing, clean scent. For oral hygiene, a few drops of Peppermint oil can be added to water with lemon to create a homemade mouthwash. The menthol properties of Peppermint oil can also be used to help clear congestion and aid in relief from nausea. Add a couple of drops onto your skin or diluted in water to aid in relaxation and focus. Peppermint essential oil should be used carefully on the skin and the face should be avoided.
