Wintergreen essential oil is extracted from the leaves of the Fragrant Wintergreen plant (Ganltheria fragrantissima) which is native to East Asia. Wintergreen essential oil has a strong, mint-like aroma but is not actually part of the mint family. Wintergreen essential oil has traditionally been used to help treat inflammation, help with pain management and rheumatoid arthritis. The main component of Wintergreen essential oil is Methyl Salicylate. This must be used carefully.
Wintergreen essential oil is valuable for massage, but must be highly diluted with a carrier oil such as fractionated coconut. Wintergreen can also be used for relaxation by adding one or two drops of oil to your bath. Wintergreen essential oil is also commonly used for its fragrant properties. Add a few drops of Wintergreen essential oil to your diffuser for a refreshing, clean and natural scent. It can also be used to mask unpleasant odours.
